I'm helping out my niece and installing a subwoofer and amp for her in a 2002 Cavalier. She wants to keep the factory head unit and speakers. From searching the forums I understand that the 4 wires to each rear speaker means she has the premium sound system. Can I tap into the 2 wires on each speaker that supplies the bass and run them to a loc to feed the sub amp? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can either catch them at the speaker leads or behind the radio.  You will have to go to the fuse box for the remote turn-on power.
Do it right the first time
