I'm trying to squeez two 8" Cerwin Vegas into a very tight spot. They require .5 cu.ft. per woofer, and I'm making one box for them to share. The most volume I can get is about .45 cu.ft. per chamber in the space I have. Is it possible to "fool" the woofers into thinking they are in a bigger enclosure by using polyfill? If so how much?

Yes you can fool it by filling it with the Polly fill. I like to stuff the box about 50%

Yes, about 50% full of polyfill, or 1lb per cubic foot is another guideline. I think with that small of a difference (10%), you shluod be alright, the response will be tad bit tighter, with a little more peaked low mid response - I'dgive you a plot if I were on my machine, bt all my stuff is at home. Just expect the tuning frequency to move up a touch, and the reponse to be a little bit "peakier". But you should be just fine.
