Hey guys I have a little problem that I can't figure it out. I have a hornet DEI remote starter on my truck 97 chevy Z71 and I can't start the truck with the remote however I can start the truck with the key override it with the remote so the truck stays running when I take the key out and then I can shut it off with the remote I just can't start it with the remote what do you guys think might be wrong.

what does the key look like that you start your truck with?  does it have a little resistor chip that you can see, is it a big black-ended key, or is it a plain metal key?
If you say "I already know how", don't ask me a single question.

When you press R / S Button, & the Unit Powers Up....Does it attempt to Crank??  Does it even Power up??
If it Powers Up ......Check Starter wire from R / S Unit or at Harness.
Have you disconnected the Battery recently??

try re-learning the tach.....this can be done by starting the car and holding the valet button down for 2 sec within ten seconds of start.....this will re-learn the tach....the only problem u may have with this is if the installer that put it in did not install a wire to the tach and switch the remote start to voltage sense....see if there is a wire connected to the white wire....at ECM which is located on drivers side inner fender. Tach wire found in a black plug marked white.  let us know what u find out
Where theres is a wire there's a way.

Umm.... the first thing to check are the fuses. Even if the unit doesen't know tach, it will crank.
There should be 2 30A fuses on the main harness. One will power up ignitions, the brain, etc. The other one powers up the starter, parklights, and accessory.
