2 ohms or 4 ohms for a sub?

Is it better to hook up 2 subs at 2 ohm or 4 ohm???? The amp can take 2 seperate channels at 2 ohms with each sum hooked up seperatly to each channel = 425 wrms each... OR hook the subs in series and run 4 ohms to the amp, and briging the amp to 4 ohms and running 850 wrms...What will sound better or what is best recommended if either way you get the same amount of wrms. @ subs alpine Swr-1242d, 500wrms per sub, 250 wrms per coil (dual coil subs)

its the same thing when you run the amp at 2 ohms stereo each channels is seeing 2 ohms and when you bridge the amp you are combinding the two channels and it will divide that 4 ohms into 2 ohms each channel. so same thing ohm loading on the amp, JUST ONE MORE AMP!!!

What kind of amp do you have? You said it was a two channel, then you said it's a mono amp. It will be obviously different. If it is a mono amp, and you are running two woofers, one to each "channel", then you are running the amp at one ohm, as the terminals inside are paralleled. Wire them in series, and you are then running the amp at 4 ohms. If it is a stero amp, and you run the two woofers on separate channels (actual channels) then the amp is "seeing" 2 ohms per channel, AND if you bridge the amp, with the two woofers wired in series, it is still 2 ohms per channel. So you can see, we need to know WHAT amp you have, before we can tell you "this way is better than that way"It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. Its a fosgate power 851s , 2 channel, 425wrms per channel 2 ohms, or 850 wrms bridged at 4 ohms...i'm just wondering which way hooking 2 subs will sound better, or is all the same??
