I like to tie the "Mist" feature of the wipers to the horn. It's seldom used, and it can be the gift that keeps giving.... especially if you do it during a dry spell when you know it isn't going to rain for a couple weeks..... Or, perhaps the "down" wire for the passenger's side power mirror........ I usually go for momentary, seldom used switches when doing little things like this. Makes for more of a surprise factor. Why don't you get yourself a keyless entry unit? $50 at most. No thinking involve and your brain will still be intact when you are done with the installation. 5 wire at most in the installation. Ground, +12V constant, +12 ignition, lock and unlock. The only thing you need to do after the installation is to program the unit to do the feature that you were trying to accomplish in the first place. What's more exciting about this is that your old man will have keyless enty as a bonus.   Audiovox is one of the brand that has this feature, but there are many other brands out there that will allow you to accomplish what you are trying to do as well.
