I have an Alpine CDA-9835 HU, and it seems as though the HU is not sending juice to the Amps via the remote turn-on wire.  The amps are getting power from the battery, but the HU is not sending the signal to the amps to turn on.  What can be causing this?  Is this a common problem with Alpine HUs?  What can I do about it?  Is there another way to turn the amps on w/o the "remote" wire (just in case it cant be fixed)? 

How many volts would that remote wire send to the amps to tuen them on?  I am guessing its less than the full 12v?

Make sure you're using the remote amp turn on and not the antenna turn on.  The antenna lead is only hot when the radio is being used.  In any case, you can use any power signal in the vehicle that is turned on with the key.  Most amps require at least 10 volts to turn on.

Thanks...I've owned this HU for a bit less than a year, and have had no problems.  It only started to do this the other day, out of the blue.  It just wont turn on my 2 amps (im not using a relay btw).  I will take a multimeter to the remote lead and see what voltage its showing when turned on.  Also, could something inside the HU have burned out?

you could also use you switched power. for your H/U for the remote. i did that before did a install and the pioneer H/U's remote was dead.

Most definitely something either broke, became disconnected or a connection built up resistance with corrosion.  Something happened that the wire that was working for a year suddenly stopped working.  First thing in these situations is to draw yourself up a list of things to troubleshoot.  I'd start with connections that exist now.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Yes...thats exactly what I did.  I went out and checked the actual wire...and that wire was the culprite.  I never have seen a wire (that visually appears to be fine) just not work anymore.  Albeit, my experience is very limited.

I ran a new wire, and the amps are turning on just fine.  I'm just really, really glad that its not the HU.  The next thing to do is run the remote lead thru a relay...instead of direct.
