Since most of you guys are fellow installers i was wonder what you thought about the Avital, Hornet and Viper ranges of security systems from DEI.
DEI Uk have just started bringing in the Hornet and Viper ranges but they arent a product i am familiar with.
How do you rate them?

How do you find the Hornet range? Are they reliable enough?
What is your worst gripe about the Viper/Hornet/Clifford/Avital systems?
Mine is that they should all come with full onboard locking relays. its the 21st century, why cant they just build them into every alarm :)

Maybe you get them free in the US but we have to pay for the 451's

I'm not sure about cars in the UK, but I find very few cars here in the U.S. where I need relays to do locks.
For many cars, like Chrsylers, the tech sheet insists you need relays, but resistors and diodes will almost always do the trick.

most of the vehicles that we install to are Jap Imports. Honda's, subaru's etc. And most of them need a door motor + relays to work.

i also thin dei is the best brand, but just so you know all most all of the brains for their products have a lifetime warranty on them.

I have been using the hornet range for about 3 years now...I have only ever had one faulty unit in that time, and that was an intermittant fault. I also use some of the new viper range and of course Clifford.
The dei stuff has been good to me, I came from a technical background of italian alarms, and they left a sour taste in my mouth.
As far as negatives go, I would prefer an outboard shock sensor on the hornets/vipers, longer looms and better fixing options.
But at the price - they cannot be beaten

Hi Naughty,
I have had some experience of the Italian products and i have to say "Junk" is being extremely kind when describing them.
I have been installing alarms now for quite a few years and i have always been impressed by the Clifford systems, well all except the concept 50 and 50x.
Good to see another UK installer on here.
To the US guys:
Who do you rate as the No.1 in alarm suppliers? I would think that it is DEI but is there someone else?
