Extremley dumb question.
If I'm going to hardwire something into my cars power, the positive wire goes to 12 volt, and the negative just gets grounded, right?
This is the first time I've seen the wires referred to as positive and negative. Most headunit manuals I've ever seen label it positive or 12v and ground.

Correct

Make sure your wires are fused properly.

well, what I'm doing is installing a hidden cigarette lighter for a sirius receiver (starmate replay). I was just going to tap into my pioneer headunit's harness for power. that way, I'm not cutting stock wiring. Would I need to add a fuse there? It's got a fuse in the fusebox, and don't most cig ligher plugs have fuses in them?

Do you want to burn the wire to the fuse box or to the cig lighter assy? You can never be too safe.
