Im trying to build a box for two HX2 punch 12"  for an expedition and the owner wants lots of  bass  out of it .

My question is if you use the recomended air space from the manual  can you get a boomin box or just a good box

If you stay close (within +/- 20%) to the recomended specs & use some poly fill or some other type of dampening material, you should achieve a good sounding booming bass from the enclosure.

The most powerful bass is going to be from a box the size that the manufacturer recommends. You can twaek it a little, often, slightly (slightly!) more air space will give a deeper, less controlled BOOM and a smaller space will be a tighter boom with more kick. No guarantees though.
