i'm going to put 2 10' Alpine type R's in the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I noticed my HU only has 1 output on it. Do I need to upgrade my HU so it has 2 outputs or is it okay to only have one? and I'm also going to replace my stock speakers w/ Alpine SPS-170A on all 4 doors. I also plan on using a Lanzar Vibe 238 on the subs and I'm contemplating whether to use an amp on the other speakers. Any opinions on the other amp would be appreciated and if anyone knows whether I need 2 outputs for 2 subs would be appreciated. thanks

When you say 1 output you mean 1 set right?  That will be enough for a mono amp.  About power the other speakers with an amp.  You'll probably need a new HU with 3 sets of outputs or line converters.
That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

You should use two amps; an amp for the subs and a four channel for the four speakers.  You can run on set of preamp signal wires back to the first amp, then out from that amp's preamp output terminals into the second amp.  You'll use splitters to feed the four channel.

Anything further, post the model of the head unit in question.  Also, it matters what model of type R subs you have whether you choose a mono amp or a two channel amp.  DVC 2 or DVC 4?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
