I read mixed reviews on alarms and most shops seem to use DEI, some people like the compustar and whatever else.

My question is: are other alarms ok to use or are some just simply junk?  I believe the quality of the install will make or break a good system, I just don't want to drop $100 on something that should go right into the trash can...

I was looking into the compustar 2WSS-AS which seems to sell for about $250. I found alarms with similar features for much less money:

Bulldog deluxe500          $125

Ultra Start U4561M-XR 2way        This one is $175

I'm just looking for alternatives with Christmas comming and all, I need to save a little money if I can.

Cool, I just ordered this:

Ultra Start U4561M-XR 2way Remote Starter with Alarm (Manual Transmission)   $174.99

It does just about everything the compustar 2Wss-AS does, it's a little cheaper.  I can't wait to have this in and working before it gets real cold! It may not have the 6000' range, but I probably didn't need that anyways.

In an ideal situation, I probably would have just bought the compustar, but there is always something better. I found alarms with GPS tracking and all kinds of stuff for around $500.

The funniest part is, I paid $200 for my '93 Eclipse and the alarm is almost that! But it's probably worth a little more than that since I've been wrenching on it extensively making it more and more road worthy. Having a car still there in the morning is worth more than $175 as well.
