HU acting weird, any ideas?

I installed a brand new kenwood KDC-X889 HU about a three weeks ago in my Chev. Monte Carlo 96 and everything was fine until yesterday. I was driving and hit a pothole(not that big) with my passenger rear tire and the HU shut off. I thought it was weird, but payed no attention. Today I was trying to see if it will happend again, so I went and hit some speed bumps (not very hard) and nothing, tryed hitting some pot holes with my fron tires and nothing but if I hit a pot hole in a certain angle with my rear passenger tire it does it. I think my car is hunted, what do you think? any ideas on how to fix it or figure out what it is? thank you.

Obviously a short of some kind. Unless the wiring behind your HU was done improperly, there may be internal shorting.. generally tough to diagnose the exact problem of a short.. good luck

With this info, I would suggest you look for grounded speaker wire. This can cause the deck to temporarily shut off. Have a look at that rear passenger speaker and its wiring.

It makes sense about the speaker wire. I just recently chaged the rear speakers and maybe I did something wrong. I will check into that tomorrow. Thank you.

If the head unit shut off you need to look at a power or ground problem. If the unit stayed powered on but the audio cut out then look for a shorted speaker wire. The only thing that may be coincidental, isn' the antenna on the right rear fender. If your radio is only grounding through the antenna it may be loosing ground to the fender over bumps. Those antennas were also know to corode at the base under the fender. Take it easy on the road tests over those potholes. Alignments aren't cheap.sparky

I solder all of my connections and heat shrink everything. In the rear speakers i used t-taps to the stock wiring and left the oem connectors just hanging. Maybe that is the problem. i did not get a chance to check them today but tuesday i will. I have connected by mystake the pos and neg of my speaker wires from my home stereo while playing music and the stereo completly shut off and then trned back on. I think my HU is probably doing the same thing, is this possible?. Should I just run new wiring to the rear and front?
