I'm trying to measure the voltage that my system in puting out. i put the setting on the multimeter to V. the black lead is connected to the com port on the MM and the red lead is on the v,ohm,m/A port.
now what?

What "system" in peticular are you measuring? If you are measuring electrical then just put the com lead to the neg terminal on the battery and the red lead on the pos terminal on the battery. Also make sure it is the V with the straight line near it and not the V with the wavy line near it.

sounds like he's trying to set his gains with the multimeter, could be wrong though.

What "output" are you trying to measure?

battery, i want to see if the voltage is 12.2 - 14.4
but, i've now confirmed that the amp problem is not due to my car.
