any info re bypass nissan transponder

I am attempting to bypass transponder on Maxima without bypass kit. I have been told that I can bypass using a relay   ...by using a piece of (25awg) wire , wrapping tit around the transponder and then wrapping it  around the ignition barrel and then back to the relay ...  Am I waisting my time or should this procedure work ???? any input would be appreciated ... I envy all you guys doing starters every day ! I install cellular phones and hands free kits for a living , Alot less bologny involved !!!   Rovari

My shop does them the way you described....I think we use 22 gauge wire. Much cheaper than using a bypass kit, you don't have to worry about the ring that goes around the cylinder being too big or small, and its much easier to hide the spare key. I usually end up taping the key to a harness somewhere so its not even noticable.

Thanks for the input ... Do I need to be concerned about the length of wire that I use ???    I was also able to remove the transponder from the key , it is quite small and limits the amount of wire that I can wrap around it . If you have any other input please let me know ... Thanks..........Rovari

As far as length goes, I don't think its too big of a concern. I usually wrap the head from top to bottom in a single layer. Then the wire goes about 2 feet to the key cylinder and I wrap that about 4 or 5 times. Then it goes back the 2 or 3 feet to the relay.
I've never removed the transponder from the key. I would put it back in if you can. Not sure how you are going to wrap it since it is rather small. Good luck.

As an added security feature & piece of mind for the customer, use a scroll saw and cut the metal key portion of the key off and give it to the customer. Tell them that if the car ever get's broken into and the thief finds the bypass module, they can't steal the car because it doesn' t have the key to start the ignition .

Thanks to all for your help ...... I have managed to temporarily bypass the transponder by taping ( again temporary ) the transponder to the ignition barrel. I will try again with wrapping the key and the ignition barrel to bypass ... The strange thing is .. I can still start the car ( 2000 maxima ) with the key that has a transponder in it .... this should not work .. Right ??     Either way it is temporary , and I will let all of you know  what I come up with ...  I will say that the instructions  that say to use 12" inches of wire , there is no way that you could  wrap the key, ignition barrel and run to a relay with 12"  of wire , at the same time the instructions say to keep the transponder away from the ignition barrel at least 9"... I dont know who made these instructions ( design tech ) I was also forwarded these instruction by velocity motors  ... I will get the needed length and post it when I am finished  .... Thanks to all for the input...

Hey Rovari, length doesn't matter any info re bypass nissan transponder -- posted image. ( LOL ), as long as you have a long enough piece that will wrap enough times around the cylinder and the key head you will be fine. The more wraps the better the signal is to the cylinder. I usually do about 2.5 feet just to be sure and I can always cut off what I think is extraneous wiring. As far as keeping the key away from the barrel, I don't think you have to worry about that because when you are done with the bypass, it can't fit close to the barrel anyway with all the wire and the glue !
