Hi i am trying to add a led on the heated glass of my snowmobile helmet.This way i will be able to see if the glass is heating,well i burned 3 led's while trying.I know cause they lighted a few sec..

it was 12 volt leds tho and i am now wondering if i should add a resistor,but i have no idea what resistor to add.

Anyone can help? thanks.

a 50 ohm resistor will cut voltage by one volt. if you are using just one led and have a 12 volt source, then you will need to bring the voltage down to the leds operating voltage witch is 5 volts. so adjust accordingly you may have to get two resistor to get the correct value.

hi there, i found that you're going to want to use a 110 ohm resistor on the positive(+) side of your l.e.d., you can put 12 volts on it all day everyday and all the resistor will do is get a little warm, i use that method for most interior lighting projects i do. i would have to assume you are using 3volt l.e.d's, and putting 12 volts to them will obviously burn them out, so adding the resistor will do the trick.
