A friend of mine who has done many many successful remote starts was putting a valet 561R into a 1999 GMC safari, when the worst that could happen, happened.  The vehicle would not start with the key, let alone the remote start.  He was using a double relay with a resistor method to bypass the passlock 2.  Anyone know what would cause this?

For starters, put the Passlock wires back the way they were and purchase a proper module to interface with the Passlock II system. They aren't expensive and work well. You can't use just two relays and a resistor to bypass the system correctly. Sometimes it doesn't pay to try and save a few dollars. You may have to do a relearn procedure after the wires are fixed to get the vehicle to start. Turn the ignition to crank. If it fails to start, leave the key in the ignition on position until the security light on the dash stops flashing. It takes about 15 minutes. Then turn the key off and the van should then allow you to start it.
