jl audio w6 suggestions and help with wiring

First of all i would like good suggestion on what to use to power these baby's, i currently have them wired at 4 ohms, bridged with the orion 900 xtreme, the old silver and black, installed in a 3 chamber half octagon box . the people at the install shop told me that was all i needed, though i know  they can sound 10x's better wired at 1 ohm,  I am looking for any suggestion to the situation and i am considering buying a new amp with 1 ohm stable, to power them, and yes i do not want more then 1 amp for all 3.  Any feedback would be greatly apprectiated,

Doesn’t matter if it’s wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohm it all depends on the rating on your amp. When you bridge your amp and run that 4 ohm load your amp will see it as a 2 ohm load which is its max power rating.  So if you have 900 X 1 @ 4 the amp cuts it in half and it is really 900 X 1 @ 2ohm.load. I believe the RMS on that amp is 700 if I can remember correctly.  So if you had a 1 ohm stable amp with a rating of 900 X 1 @1 ohm you would get 900 watts. Basically what I am trying to say is you can get the same amount of power in either a 1 or 4 ohm configuration just depends on the rating of your amp. If you want a little extra you can get a bigger amp that is closer to the power rating on your subs 900 watts RMS . I would suggest you get a JL 1000/1 http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/10001.html and run it at 4 ohms for a total output of 1000 watts RMS

hmm, 1 ohm and 4 ohm the same? hmm I'am no electrician but that can't be true, because even the wiring options listed in the manuel , say wiring the speaker at 4 ohms is the common way, and will produce normal results, but wiring the speakers at 1 ohm will produce massive amounts of current, because of the lessened resistance, and should only be done to amplifiers with enough power to handle this and are 1 ohm stable.

Lets say you have 2 set up’s 1) 1st we have a 1000 watt 2 ohm DVC sub. Our amp has a rating of 1000 watts @ 1 ohm. If we wire the sub to run @ 1 ohm we will get 1000 watts of power. 2) Our 2nd setup is another 1000 watt 2 ohm DVC sub. Now our amp puts out 1000 watts @ 4 ohms so we wire the sub @ 4 ohms and we get 1000 watts of power. Now do you see how you are getting the same amount of power out of either 1 or 4 ohms? You don’t necessarily have to have  your sub in the lowest independents to get the max power. Now if you had a amp that puts out 500 watts @ 4 ohm and 1000 watts @ 1 ohm then yes you will be getting more power if you wired your sub or subs @ 1 ohm. But what I'm trying to say is it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to wire your sub or subs in the lowest independents to get the most power. So if you get a JL 1000/1 which puts out 1000 watts @ 4ohm it will be the same if you got a amp that put out 1000 watts @ 1. It all comes down to the best way to wire it to get the max out of your equipment.

 Just want to be sure that you don’t think that I’m saying that 1 ohm is the same as 4 because its not. Just saying that it’s possible to achieve the same amount of power with different configurations.

ok i understand what you are saying, but note the sub woofers only run at 4 ohms, and 1 ohm, if the amp suppoerts lets say 2 ohm and 1.5 ohm only then it won't work.  So i have to have an amp that supports ethgier 4 or 1 ohm.  Now lets say i had the same power capabilities in 2 diffrent setups, which wiring way would you go with the 1 ohm or the 4 ohm?

speaker+4 ohm 1000 watt amp

or

speaker+1ohm 1000 watt amp
