Hi all,I have a 98 pontiac sunfire that has locked me out..
I have tried the 10 minute wait for restarting but, Do I have to try it three time in a row? I do not have a remote starter in this. I let a friend drive it for a couple of days and it stalled on her and has not restarted since. The Theftlock light stays on constantly and the vehicle will only turn over.Fuel pump is working.
             PLEASE HELP, Thanks, Allen

try unlocking all the doors with the key. the fuel pump should not be working if the vats system has prevented the car from starting that is how it works are you sure the fuel pump it kicking on? there are some basic test you can preform like checking spark at one of the spark plugs. check and see if it really is getting fuel. most gm's have a vavle like the one on a tire on the fuel rail(should be very easily accessed on that small 4 cyl) press it and you should have a very good pressure stream of fuel while cranking the motor.

if you are missing one or both either way and the key thing dont work get it to your local shop .  good luck

I am getting spark, but it seems like the injectors are closed. No fuel smell when turning over,I scanned it for codes and got no codes at all, battery is fully charged,I have disconnected the battery for 24 hours to try to reset the computer but i still have all of my radio stations.... normally when my batt. would get drained by my radar detector, I would lose all my presets but not now. I also pulled the fuses to the pcm and ing. & let it set for a while but still nothing.

do you have snap-on scanner. if so it should start up with it plug to the pcm because it goes into bypass vats. if you have the auto zone one then im not sure but i dont think so. take a multimeter on its low voltage scale and test the output to the injectors at the injector harness should be in between 2 to 5 volts. did you confirm there is fuel getting to the rail?

take the 3- 7mm screws and the tilt leaver if you have tilt steering off from around the column, it's real east to do, check in front of the ignition switch for 3 wires in a little harness the colours are yellow, BLACK / YELLOW, and black, they change colours on the other side of the plug. see if these wires have ever been cut and re-taped, if they have fix the wires by soldering them, not just re-taping them, if the wires are still in factory condition then i think it may be time to go to the next step, the dealer. if the car ever had a remote start in it the installer would have installed a bypass module for the pass-lock system, unfortunatly, sometimes when a car is being sold, some people have their systems removed so they can re-install them into another car, and ultimatly whom-ever removed the car starter may have cut a couple of corners, and left you with a little mess. of course this is speculation, who knows if the car had one but i thought i may give you an idea or 2 before you spend a G at the local dealership.
canada's cold eh.
