Hey,

I recently added a factory CD changer to a 2002 Jaq X-type. I thought the install was going to be straight forward, but the radio did not recognize the changer. I called the dealer and of course they want you to bring it in. They claim it has to be added and it can only be done by the dealer. I have my doubts, but you never know with the new cars. I did a mercedes install with fiber and as soon as I plugged it in the radio recognized it. Does anyone know how to get the radio to recognize the CD changer?

Assuming your Jag has the standard Ford/Visteon head unit, if you cycle through the source selection you should be able to select "CDDJ."  This is the changer.  If it does not come up, your HU is not a CD changer controller.  If it's not a Visteon head, then I can't help you.

Thanks DYohn,

The head unit has the button for CD and in the back of the vehicle the two plugs was there. I did not see how you would select the source CDDJ in the head, but the owners manual did not have anything for that radio.

You should be able to press the CD button twice and get CDDJ to appear on the display - after you connect the proper cable between the HU and the changer.  Also, the changer must be powered on.

DYohn,

Thanks for all the info. However I wanted to make sure we are on the same page so I posted a pic of the radio. I know I pressed the CD button more than twice, but I do not remember CDDJ coming up on the screen. I am beginning to think it is the changer itself as I recall not hearing it load.

Yes, that looks like the Visteon designed unit.  The changer has to power on for the HU to "see" it.

Cool,

The CD has power as it ejects when you press that button, but when you insert the catridge, I do not hear it load, but I still will go through your process. I really do appreciate your help. I was also wondering wear could a small shop like mine get that type of training or access to that info?
