How to Extend Remote Start Wires?

I just received my Autopage RS855 yesterday and am going to install it this weekend. I have done alarm/starters in the past but have never really done a "stealth" install. My question is regarding the remote start portiton of the alarm. If I end up hiding the brain any distance from the ignition wires, obviously the remote start wires won't reach. Short of using heavy gauge wiring is there anything I can do to extend the wires? I thought about relays, but not sure if they would work because of the need for ignition switch positon sensing. If you can find a guage of wire one larger look at trailer cable. It'll be all bundled, wraped and protected up for ya and comes in up to, I believe, 6-7 conductors. Splice to ignition wires, run the cable under the carpet to the remote start relays. Just be sure to fuse your constant +12 at the source, usually ignition harnes, in case something sharp does come down on the cable and cause a short. $.02 --jpn

That is an option, but I was hoping that I could relays if possible. I don't really want to run 6 - 10 gauge wires that far.

you can use relays, just use the positive signal that comes off the brain that would normally go to the ignition swith wires, use smaller wires, run them to the relays under the dash, then use bigger wires there to the ignition switch There are 10 types of people in the world, ones that understand binary and ones that dont.

I wasn't sure about the relays because the brain needs to know what position the ignition switch is in. You have used relays in the past?

ive used them with other brand alarms with no problems, only reason i would see that the brain would need to know what posistion its in is for the ignition wire only. other than that all the remote start is doing is applying voltage to the ignition switch, just like when you turn the key.There are 10 types of people in the world, ones that understand binary and ones that dont.
