What's the vehicle- is it a newer GM?  If so you may have to run your own.  Otherwise, check your fuses until you find the culprit.

fuses are fine, the wire going into the harness is yellow with black, which to me seems like it would be negative. any ideas on how to run a remote, without using a toggle switch?

If you've verified with a meter that all the fuses are good (including under the hood), then I'd suggest running another line from the ignition harness.  Yellow/black does not mean it's negative- it's just the wire ford chose to use for the radio accessory.  You are using a wiring harness, right?

Put an inline fuse at your connection.  Look here for your vehicle's wiring, and be sure to verify with a meter: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/vehicles.asp

Did you look up your vehicle in the link?  Check for a switched wire (accessory/ignition)- I usually use accessory.  Verify it has voltage only with the key on- use a meter.

If you're not comfortable doing this then don't- pay a professional to do it.  You'll be better off by knowing you're not double-guessing yourself.

i know what wire to use (yellow/black), ive checked it with a meter, and i cant get a charge out of it.

right now im thinking about looking into the seatbelt wiring, for the sensor to see if its buckled, i might end up being able to use that.

No, I meant which wire at the ignition harness.  If the yellow/black wire does not have power to it and you can't seem to find the fuse, you need to run a seperate wire.  Do not try to use the seat belt wiring as a source.  Go to the ignition harness, once you identify the correct wire, strip back some insulation,  solder and tape your connection.
