Amp turns itself on

Hi. A friend recommended this forum. I am having a problem with my amp. It seems that it is turning itself on about three minutes after the car is turned off. I started noticing this when my battery was dying; I figured it was my amp. I didn't install the stereo, but it seems that the remote wire is connected properly because the amp will turn on and off with the stereo; however, when the car is off about three minutes later the LED on the amp comes on. Can anyone help me out? Is this just a bad amp? Is there any suggestions of what I should do?Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the remote turn on wire from the amp and let me know if it still turns on?

Thanks for your help. I disconnected the remote wire and the amp still powered up after about three minutes. This time I noticed that the amp LED slowly flickered on until it was a full bright green. Any thoughts?Thanks again.

Are you sure that there are no frayed wires from your power cable touching the remote turn on lead? The power cables are all plug in to the correct places am I correct?  If everything above is fine then most likely the switch inside the amp that turns the amp on and off with the remote wire is bad. If it is still under warrantee send it back if not some TV/VCR repair shops also fix car audio equipment. Let me know what happens

I'm sure no wires are touching; the internal switch was what someone else had mentioned as well. If it is indeed a bad switch would it be cheaper for me to get the switch fixed or to simply put a toggle on/off switch inline with the power on the amp?

It will be cheaper to put a switch on the line but I wouldn’t recommend it. If you take it to a TV/VCR shop shouldn’t cost that much to fix. By the way how old is the amp?

I'm not sure how old it is. I bought the car used and the stereo was already installed. It's an Alpine MRP - 256 I think...I'll take it into a shop and let you know what the prognosis is.

Might also want to consider the cost to repair it and how much it would be to get a new amp.
