Head Unit Problems

Hey, I just got a new head unit from best buy, the Dual XDMR7700 and I got it all installed and all that but it wont pick up FM stations. When I press tune or seek or even do the manual tune to stations that I know exist, it wont pick them up at all, except for 1 thats 107.9 (right at the highest number if that matters.) Anyone have any ideas? Please respond ASAP before I just get pissed and return it. thanks for any and all help!

if you had them do the install take it back and make sure the antenna is plugged into the back of the unit. That would be the most likely cause Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.

Yes that is the most likely scenario, and some vehicles require an antenna adapter, and some vehicles have a powered (amplified) antenna.  But it is also possible the HU is defective, especially a low-end brand like Dual.Support the12volt.com

"going up and down" simply means you connected the remote trigger to the proper wire, not that the antenna was connected properly.  Make sure the antenna connector (the large round thing, usually silver on black wire) is plugged in.  Yes, solder if you can, use crimp-on connectors if you can't.  Be sure to insulate each wire, especially if you solder.  Shrink tubing works best.Support the12volt.com

how is your AM reception?  AM reception is critical to a good antenna source, FM is not.... if you have AM then you've got a bum HU, if no AM also, look at the antenna as a culprit....Kevin Gerry
