I am installing a starter and it needs to know engine is running, I could go direct to the alternator but rather stay in the vehicle right now.

What your looking for is the TACH signal, not the key sense wire ( sorry, I misunderstood your first post...my bad ) . The key sense wire is a wire that tell the RS unit that there is a key in the ignition ( you know that annoying buzzing sound when the door is open and the key is in the igntion ). The tach wire for the van is :

TACHOMETER-------------PURPLE / white        |   |--------------ign coils or PCM *5

The ignition coil pack is on the top of the engine on the passenger side. The PCM is in the air cleaner assembly on the front of the engine compartment on the driver side, the wire is in the blue plug in pin 8.

My starter needs 12V I think to say its running, what signal is on TACH? Is that not a variable voltage or pulsed signal.

Looked at this PURPLE / white wire in the housing for the air cleaner, very very hard to get at for a DIY job!

Wonder where else you can pick up a signal 0 -> 12V when the engine actually starts and is running....

I had a print out at one time someone saying tan wire, but just can not find it under dash, passenger side...

Hmmmm

I installed one on a 200 venture, YOU DIFFENITLY NEED A TACH WIRE.

There is no other place to find it other then to remove the air cleaner assb. and find the PURPLE / white wire on the 8 pin blue connecter to the ecm.

IT'S THE ONLY WAY
