Tahoe Gear Shift Avic N2

Hey n2tahoe, I just modified my handle.  Pretty basic.  Take the shroud off the ignition column and a larger star bit removes the bolt holding the shifter.  There is a wire running through the gear shifter, wrapped in a orange sleeve.  It is for the trailer tow button.  You can remove this.  Unplug the harness and take the gear shifter to your bench.  Take a scribe (ice pick) and gently start pulling the button outwards.  After some time, the button and a little box will come out.  You will have to cut the wire and reconnect them after the cut is done.  I just cut  1/2 section out of mine, and then welded the end that the bolt goes through to the other end of the shifter.  With a little fine sanding, the plastic part of the column that you cut looks very good, and your rubber boot covers it up anyway.  It is really easy if you have a cut off saw and mig.  Just remember to tack lweld ightly, you don't want to burn the thing in half.  Any welder of machinist or even a decent stereo shop should be able to do it, just take the shifter off and bring it to them. Yes, the soldering does work on the N2. I have seen it done. Be very careful though, the first one they tried on fried the unit, but the second one worked fine! Just be very careful when soldering the 2 points and be sure not to get solder on anything else. Harley
