This may be a dumb question as it may be all about subjective opinion, but what speaker sizes are prefered by most audiophiles for rear fill applications? I know many don't use rear fill at all, but if I am adding it, would it be better to use 6.5" or 6X9"? Or is it merely preference? I have an older set of Infinity Kappa 652.3i with pivot tweeters (6.5") and I have a fairly new pair of Kicker KS69 6X9's. I'm not sure which to go with. Any absolute do's or don'ts with these two choices?

And I've read that the ideal is adjust the fade on rear speakers until you can just barely hear them? Is there also an optimum measurement for this; that is should rearfill be 25% of the front level, 50%, or what? Or is adjusting by ear the best way to do it. Thanks as usual.

I read your post and i know you stated that some people don't use rear fill. But i just wanted to say why they don't. The whole idea is to get perfect imaging, to make the sound come from infront of you. Not from the sides or the back, thats why rear fill is not used. It's not needed to get the soundstage right.

But if your going to use some rear speakers, i would use the 6.5 infinity's. As for adjusting them just adjust them to your liking.

Depending on the rest of your system you may want to use the 6x9's to give you more mid bass. As frequency increases so does our ability to localize sound. The more higher frequencies you send to the rear fill speakers, the more you are likely to move your sound stage rearwards. You may also want to use a crossover to limit the highs to the rear so only midrange and midbass is played. As mentioned, it's all subjective. If it sounds the way you like it then leave it alone.

Well... Some people say that round speakers, are should I say, "better adapt" to making good quality sound. They give a "different" sound more preferrable to sound quality in some peoples opinions. I don't really notice a difference personally. If you keep the back speakers faded, then you probably won't even notice. I'd personally stick with the Infinity speakers though. I'm an Infinity fan not a Kicker one for sound quality.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.
