(First, I searched on auxilliary alarm, aux alarm, 2nd alarm, backup alarm, etc., to see if this had been covered before)

This may be an odd one, and probably prompt the question of "why", however, I was curious if an alarm can be hooked up and function without being wired into the vehicle ignition.

Bascially, I am looking to add an auxilliary alarm to my existing system, but run independantly with its own power, siren, sensors, etc., but NOT wired into the ignition/harness, etc. Can this be done, or will the alarm not function without being integrated into the ignition?

Yes, it may be overkill, or even stupid, however, I just want to know if the alarm would even work. I have a '00 Civic Si that has been a theft/vandalism target and my primary alarm, even stealthed, has been hacked a few times.

Thank you very much for your patience and input on this.

Someone in another forum said that the ignition kill is optional and not required. All you need from the car is the dome light trigger input, power, and ground. Everything else wires up normally.

Can anyone confirm this?

Reading around the forums here folks appear to very knowledgable. I am glad I was referred to this site.

Would a 12V aux outlet that is only on when the vehicle is on work for that source? I have both a constant 12V aux (that I was going to tap for main power) and a 12V aux that is only on when the vehicle is on.
