Guys,
My Ford Lightning had a 791xv installed professionally back when I was at home in Minnesota. I now have the truck out here in New Jersey. Awhile back, one of the 2-way remotes stopped working...frustrating but I got over it because I had a second 2-way remote. Now today, the second 2-way remote stopped working. I tried the following sequence to get the brain to recognize the remote:
1: Open door
2: Ign. on
3: Push Valet Switch 2x, holding after second push
4: Push lock button on remote
5. Turn ignition off.
I had no luck in getting any response out of the alarm. When I should've gotten a chirp upon pushing the lock button on the remote, I got nothing. Does this indicate a defective remote? What are your guys' thoughts?

1.open door

2.ign. on

3.push valet once, hold after once

4.push lock button on remote

5.release valet (program) button

6.turn ign. off

7.should have a confirmation chirp

  • if you program to channel 2, you have to program all buttons individually
  • ( channel 12 will erase all remotes)
  •  start over with step 1
  • look in the "downloads" section for your specific install manual (it's in the left column under "general info")
  • Hope this helps Problem with Viper 791xv remote/transmit -- posted image.

i usually unplug the connector at the antenna for 10 minutes and recycle the antenna.... this often corrects problems on these Responder units....

Just a quick question about unplugging the antenna. It's very, very tight against my headliner. That being said, does the wire plug simply unplug, or is there a release on teh connector? Its cold out so I dont wanna force it and have it break on me..

the responder remotes often do go bad. It may not be a matter of reprogramming. Although i would try a new battery in the remote make sure that it is getting a signal. the antenna plug does just come out, there is no release. That would def be a good idea to do as well. make sure that the ign. wire did not come undone or the valet button, if either one of those is disconnected it obviouilsy wont program.

I'll give the antenna trick a try. If that doesnt work its probably the remotes. I mean, it worked one minute and then the next it didnt. How good is Directed about replacing these things? I've been reading alot about people having to buy new ones...

They come with a 1 year warranty if installed by an authorized Viper dealer.  Otherwise, you will have to buy a new remote.
