ok folks it along time coming but i finally got around to it. here is the pics of my stanley knife that some of you espressed interest in.
i only had a shhhty little camera here so please excuse the quality of the images.
i use this knife a couple of differt ways.
1. i hook up like so to a DMM and can cut into wires to take reading. (this the the method i use most)
2. i have the bulb installed and can use it as a test light.
3. sometimes for locking i connect my power probe and can apply current through it.
as you can see i have a butt connector installed in the bottom of the knife for easy connection although i just have some wire installed in the pic. i didn't take the knife apart for the pics as it can be a pain to get back together and i don't want everyone seeing the mysteries within LOL.

Although my Stanley isn't as nice as yours, been using the Stanley knife method for years.  But I have to put the probe of DMM or Test Light in the back where I drilled a hole.............
Maybe you should E-Mail Stanley your idea............

You guys use a razor knife to cut into wires???
You guys would like my needle clamp then.
It pokes the smallest hole and also test the wire
You cant even tell i tested the wire

Probe
Don't know if you saw this from the other thread, but you might consider giving this a try; the way it's designed, the wire centers automatically as the probe needle gets inserted.
I found it to work on very small gauge wires, and even the teflon stuff with no problems. It'd probably have trouble with 30 gauge wire wrap wire, but there's really no good way to probe something like that anyway, and I'd be really surprised to find small gauge wire like that in a car.
I've had some other ones with the same concept, but poorly executed, so it would often do exactly as you said, slip to the side of the wire and miss the mark.
This one is made very precisely, and the piercing needle is centered all the way to the apex of the V-groove.
