i use alot of compustar units and about a third of the cars I do will grind for a split second after they start. Is this just because certain cars will just always do it or can this be bypassed if the car grinds a bit after remote start.

If they are the new V5 CPU's take them all back and get the V5 D1 software upgrade. They had a over crank issue with the new V5 series CPU's at the beginning of the season and the D1 software upgrade fixes the over crank issue with them. Bring them back toy uor supplier for a RA and get new ones or get the old ones flashed wit the new software.

I've only been using Compustar units for a couple months now. Probably done about 30 vehicles. I've noticed the starter staying engaged a little too long on some cars. Any particular make of vehicle you are having issues with?
Examples:
Toyotas: if using tach the car will overcrank when warm. If car is cold, it starts fine. But if its cold, it will shut down in a couple minutes. Tech support told me to switch to Alt sensing on Toyotas. The last 5 or so I have done that and it works perfect. Its either a skinny red or yellow wire in a 3 or 4 wire harness plugged into the alternator. Meters 12v only when the car is running. If its 12v with the key in the on position but the engine off you have the wrong wire.
GM cars:
Starter will overcrank a fraction of a second too long.
GM trucks: I use the white wire at the instrument cluster and have no overcranking issues.
Fords: I use an injector, no problems.
Honda/Acura: Some cars seem to overcrank slightly. They don't seem to overcrank when the car is cold. I might try alternator sensing on the next one I do.
The one or two Nissans, Chryslers, and Hyundais I have done have worked fine.
