I prob know the answer to this but i want to make sure i'm right befor i pass this onto a customer, he currently has a pair of mtx 9500 15" subs in a ported box, i'm not sure the amp but i'm pretty sure he's running around 500 rms to each.  he want's louder so i'm considering a pair 9515's and running them in a ported box with the same amp or a larger one if i can sell him one. the vehicle is a 94 ford explorer and he's not to concerned with SQ. what could be a good guesstamite on the outcome of the dd audios 9515's? or would the 9100's be able to keep up with the mtx 9500's?

Sounds like there is some thing amiss here, those subs in a properly built box and 500 watts a piece should be loud.

I would trouble shoot the situation further before selling more products. I am not saying those dd's are bad subs, but it seems there is some thing else wrong here, like enclosure issues or perhaps the amp is not set up right. And it could be the lack of power, 500 watts for those subs is lower than the mfr rated rms power, so maybe a 2k watt amp is in the future.

oh it's plenty loud now as it is, he's using the kenwood excelon 1600 watt subs amps (one per sub)  he would just like it to be louder.

I would just go to bigger amps first, then if the results arent satisfactory look at different subs or different boxes.

don't get me wrong, he's plenty loud, but he's also planning on changing his system, i don't deal with the MTX stuff. i'm just wondering it 2 of the 9515's with the same amps in a proper built box would be louder then the 2 mtx 9500 15's. or maybe even a step down to the 9100 series.

The mtx 9500 woofers are nothing more than knock-off DD subs. MTX even tried the old "association" technique by calling them 9500s' like DD. 2 DD9515s' in the proper ported box (about 10 -12 cubes with a large port) will smoke those MTXs' any day of the week when it comes to spl. Go to DDaudio.com and use their box specs as a reference, except when you build the port you will be much happier if you almost double their recommended port area. As far as amps go, 6,000 watts for the pair daily would not harm them at all.

Sorry to double post, but I forgot to mention the DD 3500 series woofers. They too will hang in there with an mtx 9500, and handle about as much power. You could also use a smaller box as they tend to do better this way IMHO. They also would not be hurt by running 3,000 watts to the pair for daily use.

How are the 9500's a knock off of the DD's. Thats a fairly bold statement to make. Do you actualy have any comparisons between the two to show that MTX is ripping them off or are you simply going by the fact that the MTX is a 9500 and the 9515 both have 9 and 5 in the model number?

I have seen both woofers disassembled, if thats' what you mean. And the mtx sub looks like a reverse engineered DD 9500 woofer, only with cheaper components. As far as the 9 and 5 designation goes, it won't be the first time a larger company with a higher marketing budget released something with a very similar name to entice customers. Soundstream has a fairly new line of woofers designated as a "XXX" series, which I believe RE used  first, the RE XXX  woofers and DD 9500 woofers Have had a fair amount of success on the SPL circuit. Success breeds imitation. Larger companies use similar names to "trick" unknowing consumers to buy their product. It looks fairly blatant to me, but I also like the shooter on the grassy knoll theory!

Bold statement from you on this. Not sure how you can get these two subs  from the same engineered drawing :
