Ok I have 4 dual 2 ohm vc subs and would like to set up a relay array to switch between 1ohm and 4 ohm loads for the amp. (yes the amp will take the 1 ohm mono load)

I have a friend that set a record for 0-100 watts in USAC that did this with a US Amps/ Kove install (4 vlx 25's and I think it was 8 or 12 Kove 12's) but have lost contact with him. If I remember correctly it was 12 relays to switch the loads from .25 ohm to 8 ohm but I can't remember exactly.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

David

This is how I read you.

We have 8 voice coils at 2 ohms each and you want them configured in MONO to one amp. You also want to flip a switch and change it from a 4 ohm load to 1 ohm using all available voice coils.

When in doubt, try it out !

Correct. 8 2ohm voice coils

if I go each speaker in a series would give me 4 4ohm loads then I could parallel each for 1 ohm or series and parallel for 4 ohm.

I am thinking another option would be to switch it to 16 ohm for easy listening and switch to 4 ohm or 1 ohm (probably 4 ohm as the best option)

So I am thinking switchable from 16 to 4 could be my best option.

Thanks for the reply by the way!

David

Here is how to switch between Series and parallel, I think I would need 2 of these (each pair of speakers wired with one array and each speaker paralled ) wired in a series. When they are energised then they would be 2 2ohm loads in a series making a 4 ohm mono load.
Woot! I think I got this! and only need 4 relays!
