I have no idea as to the value of the amp in question, but if it turns out he is trying to rip you off, I wouldn't consider him a friend for much longer if I were you...

Directed, eh? Mid-level, not high-end, but not a bad product. $200 may or may not be a good deal. If it's used, go on eBay and search for the model number to see what they're going for, or check here for current prices on refurbs.
