Does anyone know how deep the speaker mounting holes are on these cars? I Would like to install some Alpine Type R components in there which have a mounting depth of about 2 1/2" and was curious if they would fit. If anyone has worked on one of these please let me know if you remember. Thanks.

Too deep with too big of a magnet for the stock location. Possibly with a 1/2" spacer.

Are you speaking from experience? If a spacer was used will there be enough room between the speaker and the door panel without hitting?

Toyota's in general use a 2" depth when they use a 6" speaker. I haven't put these speakers in a Matrix but have with Tacoma's, 4 Runners and other Toyotas with a 1/2" spacer.

Roll down the windows and check.  I want to say no spacer is needed.  Remember to make sure the speaker clears the door stopper as well.  I remember years ago, when I first started, I forgot to check that- when I tried to close the door, it wouldn't close!

Did that too, years ago in an old Celica. Ended up reversing the plunger so it went into the kick panel instead of the door!

Haha.  At least I'm not the only one to admit it.  I like that use of ingenuity, though- never thought about trying to reverse it.
