Running board lights & relay

Awhile back I installed door handle lights on my 98 Expedition. Not thinking, I wanted the door handle lights to blink when I unlock my door with the factory remote and at the same time. I wanted to turn on door handle lights when I want to. Easy solution relay now that I think about it. But anyway the problem is the running board lights doesn't come on when I unlock the doors, I tapped into the (+) wire of running board lights to door handle lights connected to a switch. Now I turn on running board and door handle lights by on/off switch. Any solutions, on how to get it back the way it was.
