grand am alternator hum

Help!!  1986 Grand Am died while being driven. No spark. replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires, pick up coil. started and ran for 10 minutes. Died again. noticed a hum from the alternator with key on. disconnect alternator, car starts and runs fine, connect alternator = hum but will not start. any ideas???

Change out your alternator. If you have an AutoZone near you they can check it at no charge. At the same time they can check your battery, and starter.

You might have a bad control module. If so it's a $26 part.
