It is a true that infinity will be comming to best buy. And Eclipse to circuit.
however.. i think you'll see the same problem circuit had before just get worse.
w/ Alpine, Circuits problem was alpine shipping and keeping up with their new demand
sure, you own the custom install shop world... but now you've just thrown yourself to the wolves, increased your sales by 40-50%. and now where is all that product comming from. Best buy asked alpine to build 2 more plants before partnering with them to sell their product. they did, and their production is still behind a bit.
Now, look at eclipse. much in the same market as alpine was. Are they going to use circuit as a stepping stone to take over the retail world?
who do we have to thank for this?
rockford....
oh dear, thank you rockford for mass marketing a once quality and small run line to make millions off of a deal with a giant retailer to sell crap @ low levels just to pull off volume sales.
Where will eclipse be in 2 years is the question....
Circuit is also dropping Audiobahn.. this however will do nothing but help their image.

Who cares if elicpse is trying to sell more units. Isn't the point of running a business to make money. And no offense to custom shops. But you can only go so far with that.

I hear eclipse is going to stop offering their great warranties and isnt going to use the theft deterrent capabilities either - just bc it would mean more problems for circuit

I Think you're failing to understand. I Wasn't dissing the business for succeeding. I'm simply saying are they prepared for what is to come. Circuit city has a big share of the 12v world. Is eclipse willing to stake it's reputation and quality pushing out 10-12x the units they're used to. Did they step up quality control w/ production? or are they going to have units "squeek" by.
This is a problem that has plagued alpine, and rockford.
Rockfords Power series and RF series are great compared to the punch. But the problem with punch isn't that it sounds THAT bad. But the biggest problem i see is the # of problems w/ the units vs. the # sold.
Panasonic used to boast about a 1% Fail rate.
Now look at them.
w/ circuit city pushing their head units the problems per 100 have doubled.
What i would like to see companies do is make sure their low end products completely seperate themeslves from their upper lines. I don't know how much you can ask for. But just make sure you know when you buy an alpine f-1 you're getting something that was much better taken care of than an alpine 9841.

type r and p3's are coo...are they better than those?

The infinity Reference series will out perform the type-r alpines definately.  I work at Ultimate Electronics (the custom big box store) and I have the type R components as well as the reference components, not to mention the KAPPA line.  We do carry the Perfects line too.  I hope for my store's sake that BB doesn't carry the Perfects, because they are the best speakers I've heard in the mobile environment.  I don't want some 16 - year old kid selling people a pair of $400 components without an amp!  I must admit that I've dealt with a lot of knowledgible people at my local Best Buy, but I've also seen some who had no clue.

Type Rs have a bit more midbass output, but the Infinity's have a lot cleaner highs, best matched with a subwoofer.

NOTE:  we also carry the Alpine Type X components/subs and those are worthy of praise.

Both are true, bb will carry infinity...which will out play every speaker they offer except the type r, and cc has already started carrying eclipse which many consider is the best head unit available for signal.

I don't worry as much about BB or CC carrying Alpine or Eclipse, both places are required to sell no lower then MAP prices anyway. If I can't get the sale by stressing my shop's superior quality work and customer service it's time to get out of the business anyway. Internet sales with false warranties, refurb product and grey market goods are what I fear. And the really good stuff out there, JL, Zapco, Arc,  Focal etc. will never end up in a box store. So your local specialist will ALWAYS be able to put a better sounding system in your car and isn't that what it's all about?
There is no such thing as free installation!

I wouldnt say JL wont end up in a Big Box Store. 5 or 6 years ago the same probally would have been said for eclipse and MB Quart. Both of them have went the route of Big Box. Also lets not forget that going Big for these companies doesnt always work. I still dont know if Rockford has stopped the bleeding from their Big Box Launch. They were loosing money hand over fist for a while, most dont understand that Rockford was quite literally one or mabye two quarters away from going bankrupt due to the fact that they grew too big too quickly.
