Hey there,

How would one go about replacing a MOSFET in a amp? I belive that it is just a matter of soldering the burnt one out and putting the new one in, is this correct? anything you have to be carfull of when replacing a MOSFET?

Thanks

I'm going to assume you know how to solder properly or you wouldn't ask a question like this, right?  :)  You'll want to ensure you don't fry the IC so be careful of your timing and use a temperature controlled iron and liquid flux.  Beware of static: a good ESD mat and proper wrist grounding strap is your friend.  When removing the IC a desolder pump works better than solder wick.  Make sure you remove old solder completely and clean everything before you insert the new part, and there is also usually thermal compound between the IC and the heat sink that you'll have to be sure to replace.  Go slowly.

ok kool. ya I have solderd before like modchips in PS2 and such. I learned the first time I did a modchip that liquid flux is you freind!!! I have yet to see the amp in question(earthquake 200dhc), but about how much "room" is there gona be? Like am I gona need to use magnifying eyeglasses(cant think of name) to see all the prongs and such? I know with the PS2 it was a PITA b/c you really couldnt see to many of the spots that had to be solderd with the bare eye, and I do have perfect vison(20/20) so hopfully its not THAT bad, hopfully....
