In some situations a mercury switch works good.
The cost is normally around $6.00.

Reed switches can be found at Radio Shack or anywhere that sells home alarms. You need a normally closed one for most remote starters. Mercury switches aren't a good choice as they false and won't work on hills. They haven't been used for many years because of this. Most pin switches are cheap and can be replaced when necessary. If you coat the switch with rust preventative it should last for quite some time.
