This is my 1st attempt at anything involving relays, forgive me if you have been asked this before. I have a 95 Honda Accord and I am wanting to install a relay for powering some accessories. I have read the article on the right about relays and special applications for them. On an SPDT relay, what would be the best way to get 12v power to it?? I have a 4 guage power wire coming to my amp, should I pull directly from the battery?? Once power is sent to the relay I fully understand the rest about wiring and the diagram provided. Sorry for what may be an elementary question.

You can grab the power at the 4 gauge wire, there should be no problems there, just make sure that you fuse this connection to the relay to protect botht he relay and the stereo system power wire.

so basically, just run the 4 gauge wire to a distributor of sorts and then run an additional fused wire w/ the required amperage to the relay??

my concern would be over taxing the alternator, I have a 400 watt MTX amp running off of the existing power wire. Sound like any potential problem?? I would probably be pulling about 40 amps off of the relay.
