Viper 5000 issue

I have a 1997 Chevy S10 4x4 extended cab with a Viper 5000 car alarm. When I have the window half-way down and the alarm activated, is it normal for me to just reach in and unlock the vehicle without the alarm going off? Even more concerning, after I unlock the door, I can then open it and get in and the alarm still doesn't sound. (maybe a warning chirp, if that) I'm not saying I would ever leave my vehicle out of sight with my window open, but something about this doesn't sound right. Is this normal or is the installation on it done wrong? Feel free to comment because I didn't install it, so my feelings won't be hurt!!!!

The installation was done wrong..Sometimes you have to be careful when you get a unit installed,cuz everyone isn't honest.I know it sucks,but that's just the way it is.Now,if you do not have an proximity sensor,there is nothing to pick up someone reaching in you vehicle.That is what a proximity sensor is for.It picks up someone disturbing the radar field around your vehicle.Secondly,it sounds to me like your door trigger isn't wired in at all,or incorrectly.Did you not check your system after you had your unit installed??If you paid to have it installed,you need to go back and have the installer fix your system.."ole blake"

No, you shouldn't be able to open a door without the alarm going off. If your dome light stays on for a little while after you close the door, then you should wait for it to go out before you do your testing. Sometimes the alarm is connected to the dome light wire and won't really arm that zone until the light goes out and it thinks the door is closed. If the dome light goes out, then you can still open the door without setting off the alarm, you definitely have a problem. Does this happen with the passenger door as well as the driver's door?

The dome light is off when I try this. It doesn't matter which door. I get the same results from the driver and passenger doors.

take it back to where you had it installed and tell them they need to hook the door triggers up.D
