I just finished installing an Audiovox model APS 785 SecuritySystem in my 95 Ford Powerstroke Diesel truck (Automatic Trans). Everything seems to be working fine though I have not as yet tested the remote start feature. My main concern is the wiring of the power door locks, I have the 5 wire reverse polarity connection which I have no instructions in my manual for. I installed two 5 pin relays as described in this forum ......... My security system module has 3 wire feed to control these relays, the first wire red will pulse ground for lock and 12V+ for unlock, The second wire green will pulse 12V+ for lock and ground for unlock, the third wire RED / blk will pulse ground only for secondary unlock (all other doors).
My relay connection call for ground pulse only from the security module on both relays to activate either lock or unlock. Here's what I did.... Red wire to lock relay and green wire to unlock relay. So when I press lock on my remote control the red wire sends a ground pulse to the relay, doors then lock.... When I press unlock green wire sends ground pulse to relay, doors unlock, seems to work fine....... But meanwhile when the ground pulse is being sent out to either relay the opposite relay is getting a 12V+ pulse, wich means 12V+ current flowing in from both ends of the relay coil..... This will not activate the coil but My question is, Will it damage the coil or locking mechanism in anyway in the future?? .......... Does anyone know if this will continue to work as is or does anyone have alternative wiring instructions...... Also if I need to add blocking Diodes where do I put them and what type diode do I use ?

Thanks dea,can ........... I do appreciate the response, and thats exactly how I have mine wired already, I'm more concerned about the 12v+ pulse being sent to the relays from the security module, there is no way to stop the module from sending this signal.

change your 85 and 86 that you are suppose to run to 12v just run them to ground and hook up your lock wires just like the diagram says it will work perfectly

You will not run into any problems. THis is how alternating polarity door lock systems work and will not damage the relay or the vehicle's OEM system. If you really want ot you can diode isolate pins 85 & 86 from each other.

I've just completed installation of my Prestige APS785 Remote Start/Security System, everything is working fine except for one of the remote start selectable features. I have a 95 F250 Powerstroke Diesel truck with auto transmission. There is a feature that allows the remote start  to select  a time for the glow plugs to warm up before it cranks the engine. The APS785 Manual instructs you to 1. turn on ignition key. 2. Press and release valet switch 3 times. 3. Turn off key and press trunk/key button for 1 sec.  4. Turn Ign key back on. 5. Press valet switch 2 times. The siren is then supposed to emit 2 short and 1 long beep to to verify you are in the program mode. I cant get pass step 5, Im not getting a confirmation signal from the module and even if I proceed with the rest of the programming its not responding. All other program procedures work fine so its not the switch or remote control. The remote start feature is already working fine, when the engine is already warmed up I can start it with the remote feature and it will run, but on a cold morning I need to have the glow plugs warm up the engine before she will start. .... If there is anyone familiar with this system can you think of any reason why I cant get into this program feature?

ive done many of these alams to include the informer 996-a and have always use a vt3 (peripherals variable timer) set it accordingly and had no problems. i do know you have to be quick on the fingers to program these things. dont know why it wouldnt go into the particular programming mode.

Audiovox does have a problem with this unit.If have a problem programming different options here is what the bulletin calls for .Dis-connect the vehicle battery for 5 min. then re-connect.Then you should be able to program the options you want.
