After some review I believe I've jumped from the frying pan into the fire hehehe.

I have a 2002 Honda Accord EX coming in for a remote starter next week. From what I've read, the wiring on these is counter productive, and trying to get a remote starter to work with the factory alarm is not an easy task... What scares me is I've yet to find any post that confirms it is even possible. This is not good when you're looking to take their car for a finite amount of time :(

So, has anyone successfully integrated a remote starter to the factory alarm on one of these? If so, how did you do it? Any tricks?

She also wants auto headlights.. this is not really a problem, but just adds time. If it turns out it's easier to disable the factory alarm and put in a new one, does the 02 EX have hood pins and whatnot already in place?

She showed me her key and it appears to not have a transponder in it.. Just a typical key as far as I could tell. It seems strange to me they'd have a factory alarm with no anti-theft key system. This one kinda scares me folks :-\

Its an easy car to work on...just a little time consuming. The car does have a transponder key. Every Accord from 98+ has one. No exceptions.

You will need to get your lock wires at the passenger side fuse box. They can be a little tricky to get at, but its not too bad. If the car is locked/armed and you remote start it the factory alarm will go off. Two things you can do. Hook your disarm wire up to unlock, and your rearm wire to lock. Car will unlock, start and then relock the doors. If you don't like that method, you will need to run your disarm wire into the drivers door and connect to the blue disarm wire at the window/lock switch. Car will stay locked the whole time when you remote start, but the alarm will shut off. The doorboot has a molex plug so you will have to drill a hole in it to run your wire.

Not 100% sure for the 02 Accord but check to make sure that the door locks are still operation under ignition ON. Some vehicles disable the keyless entry and there may be no signal going into the keyless module when the IGN is on therefore making this project dead even before you start.

Jeff, I don't think he said that he was trying to get it to work from the factory remote. If that is the case, then it will be a big headache. Adding a system with new remotes is a lot easier.

Yeah. The plan is to use the remotes that come with the new remote starter. They've accepted that they may potentially lose the dual pulse unlock feauture (depends on how much extra time I have. Given enough time I can Macgyver anything ;)

Very good idea! If this ends up being the case it's a no-brainer the factory alarm is not going to be used. The problem would be in trying to avoid rewiring the entire locking system.

Hey guys...

I have the green light to install a Bulldog Deluxe 500 in a 2002 Honda Accord XE next week. I've never done a Honda before.. particularly a newer Honda that has a transponder... Is there such a beast that can 'learn' the code, or do I need to get one that requires a key be permanently left in it?

Recommendations? There's always the JBS/Bulldog universal one, but it does require a key. This adds a lot to the overall cost of the project as getting a new key made isn't cheap.

Neither of those modules work 100% of the time

A key from Honda typically cost about $28 in my experience.

The car comes with 2 regular keys and a valet key.

If you want a method that works 100% use the valet key in a universal bypass box.
