I recently picked up a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. It has an alarm system and a remote starter. The remotes did not work when I got the car, I did get 2 new remotes which do work. The remote starter is set to work with the factory key fob remotes. When I activate the remote start the engine starts but the starter stays engaged. I found what I think is the control unit. It says auto-mate model 1 and has a number A6056021. I am trying to find out how to get into programming mode. I have tried searching for info on the model, the serial, and they all come up empty.
The previous owner had problems with the battery going dead constantly. I replaced the battery and have not had one problem with the battery for 2 months.
Is it possible the programming could have been corupted from the battery going dead?
Does anyone know where I can find info on this unit?
Thanks

that is a dei unit, fairly old though, but if it is a remote start do this:

start the car with the key

press and hold the little black momentary button for 4 seconds or if you have an led on the dash wait untill it turns on solid

let it go and turn the car off

try remote starting the car with the remote, if tach just needed re-learning then you should be good to go, if that did not work there may be other problems.

canada's cold eh.

make sure the engine is warmed up so the vehicle is a low idle. if you program it and the starter still holds on a little to long sometimes you can put the car in gear when programming tach to get the rpm's down alittle more.
