I want to install a 10" speaker in a custom shaped box behind the wheel well in the trunk (between the wheel bump and the back of the tail-light. What's the best way to make a mold of the shape to make a fiberglass enclosure. Also, I want it to be removable so i can access the tail light to change the bulb or whatever. Help please!

Hey Javy,

We can't give you a complete course on fiberglass but here are a few pointers.  Cut a piece of MDF to fit the area.  Repeat the preceding if you want the face to be the same size as the bottom.  Temporarily screw the bottom against the wall of your SUV.  Use heavy speaker brackets as stand-offs to place the face at a distance and angle you want.  Carefully unscrew and remove the "box".  Styrofoam blocks can be cut and shaped to fit between the two.  When the desired shape has been achieved, it's time to get dirty and lay fiberglass on our "box".  Finish with car putty and be prepared to sand a lot.  Cover in your favorite material.

When all is done, place your box where it should go, reach in through the hole of the sub, drill a couple of holes placed strategically through the MDF and right into the mounting suface.  Put the box aside and put stove bolts in the wall of your SUV from the back outwards with a nut to hold 'em in place.  Now put your box in place over the studs add wingnuts, screw the sub in place and stand back and have a cold one!  You deserve it!
