Sirius Satellite radio antenna

Getting ready to go all out on our 2004 Mazda Tribute and putting in dvd, monitors, sirius, and possibly an amp. Where does everyone put the antenna on the roof? Its gotta be on the exterior and wraping it into the rear hatch seems to put a bind on things and will probably push up the seal. Has anyone drilled a hole in the roof for the antenna lead? Its scary but I dont see much of an alternative. I looked for pics. Any SUV antenna install pics are welcomeIm Rick James

The wire is very small guage and will not interfere with the weather stripping of the vehicle. Placing it on the back of the car by the hatch is one option if you want to have it out of the way and out of sight. Another way is to have it run up along the "a" pillars of the vehicle and exit through the weatherstripping ( on the underside )and have it stuck just above the windshield. Not as nice, but still effective.Jeff

the main thing with the sirius antenna is to keep it where you can easily replace it if and when i stops working. we are having those come back left and right (from our store and other shops in our area). also, i have found if you do it up front and have to come thru the door jam you should go thru the passenger side since it is likely that door will not see as much traffic as the drivers door. also, make sure you leave service loop on the line where it comes thru the door jam and keep it away from the hinges and limit rod to ensure it doesn't get cut in half. good luck hope that helps."I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think."

Thanks for reminding me these are temporary. Drilling holes does seem a bit drastic. I really want to go through the back though but that hatch creates a binding action and that is the reason I was looking for an alternative like drilling. I took the antenna through the third brake light on my ranger and it looks great so I was just looking for a finish as nice as that. I'll keep thinking till my wire harness gets here and then its decision time. Thanks for suggestions. MOre welcome!!!Im Rick James

I have actual mounted the antenas on the dash of both dodge and nissan works fine as I believe its line of sight

I've installed a few of them and they all got excellent reception at the front of the dashboard. No need to install it on the outside, just more hassle. Set the receiver to show signal strength and play around with the location to find the best spot.
