I just had the 791XV alpine alarm installed at a local stereo shop and they disconnected my security chip(The one you can take out so that you can't start the truck without it). They told me that this alarm would not work with that chip installed.Forgive my ignorance but isn't the chip just a normally open relay, you put the chip in and it closes the relay. Why would this securtiy chip be incompatable?

are you sure they didn't just use a bypass for the Passlock II?

You might want to go to this shop and ask them exactly what they did to bypass passlock II.  I have done many of these and I've never heard of removing the "chip" from any of them.. Check your receipt and see what they charged you for? Is it just an alarm or remote start/alarm, I am not famalier with  that model? Sounds a little fishy though2004 Denali alarm? - Last Post -- posted image.

are you refering to a passive alrm system?  The "chip" being a module you plug into a receiver to allow the unit to start.  If so they should still be able to use this with the new alarm you had installed as long as you aren't trying to remote start the vehicle.

a true canadian eh!

All they would've had to do was tie in the starter kill from the alarm further down the line than where the "chip" ties in and both would work together. Also as long as they did put a starter kill in, you really aren't gaining or losing anything by not having the chip.

The alarm is a remote start alarm (Viper 791xv) , and if i'm not losing anything or gaining anything without having the chip i feel better about it to a point because i should have just not purchased it when i bought the vehicle and bought a quality alarm instead.
