Take the whip out of the closet, go for a drive. Roll down the window, crack whip until car performs properly. Aside from that, I too would agree with Shaughn above.

 I had an s10 do the same thing. The distributor cap had a hairline crack in it .

Mybe a earth wire had this on a suzuki vitara and it was the earth wire

That was making it hesitate when you put the lights on  full or roll down the windows etc hope this helps.

Many thanks for all your replies...I stopped checking for replies cos I didnt get anymore e-mail notifications, so I thought no one else was replying.

I have actually taken it to the VW garage, they are saying that my ignition coils need changing, however, other garages seem to disagree with this.  My engine management light does not come on, however, VW have assured me that this will be sorted out once the parts have been changed.

Not sure what to do now
