Alpine V12?

I got an alpine mrv-1005  from a friend the lights come on but there's no sound coming from the speakers there was a distorted sound until I rewired the rca inputs and it stopped. All my connections are good because I swapped it with 2 different amps that work fine. Does the Alpine have to be connected straight to the battery (no fuse) in order to work?

No, always fuse!
If ALL the lights come on that could be bad. Is one of them red? That usually means there is something wrong
