hey fellas,

quick question that i want to address before i upgrade my alt.  currently on my 2001 dodge ram i have a 136 amp alt.  i am wanting to upgrade b/c of the electrical demands that i am adding onto the original alt are starting to climb ie: elec fans, system, aux lighting, carputer etc etc

what i am wondering is, with my voltage regulator being built into my PCM/ECM computer, how large could i go with the alt upgrade?  currently i have 2 options, 1 being a standard 170 amp upgrade for an oem fit,  or i could use a 205 amp desiel alt .  witch im still unsure of b/c of the fact that its a desiel alt and im not sure if the current output is correct for my gasser truck.

any ideas would be great or any places i could go to find out this information

thanks in advanced

Go as big as you like.  The voltage regulator does just that- regulate voltage, so just putting in a higher output alternator will not hurt it.  The alt will only put out the amount of current that is needed.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
